Rachel Sweeney is a dancer, choreographer and writer whose teaching specialisms include dance anthropology, site based dance and European Dance Theatre History. She has received several awards for her dance research from the Arts Council of Ireland, Dublin Corporation, Butoh UK and the Arts and Humanities Research Council and has travelled and performed extensively throughout Europe and Australia. She holds a practice as research PhD in the area of Japanese Butoh dance and contemporary choreographic practice, and has taught Performing Arts in UK Higher Education since 2004. Rachel graduated from Dartington College of Arts in 2006 where she studied Theatre before going on to pursue an MA in Dance at the University of Surrey. She holds a practice based PhD from Middlesex University which focuses on Japanese Butoh dance and its application within contemporary site based dance practice.
